2 KMnO4 (aq) + 2 MnCl2 (aq) → 4 MnO2 (s) + 2 KCl (aq) + Cl2 (g)
This is an oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction:
2 MnII - 4 e- → 2 MnIV (oxidation)
2 MnVII + 6 e- → 2 MnIV (reduction)
2 Cl-I - 2 e- → 2 Cl0 (oxidation)
MnCl2 is a reducing agent, KMnO4 is an oxidizing agent, MnCl2 is a reducing agent.
This is a precipitation reaction: MnO2 is the formed precipitate.
This is a gas evolution reaction, Cl2 is the formed gas.
