Fe2O3 + 3 ClO- + 4 OH- → 2 H2O + 3 (Cl)- + 2 FeO42-
This is an oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction:
3 ClI + 6 e- → 3 Cl-I (reduction)
2 FeIII - 6 e- → 2 FeVI (oxidation)
ClO- is an oxidizing agent, Fe2O3 is a reducing agent.
Reactants:
- Fe2O3 – Iron(III) oxide
- Other names: Ferric oxide , Hematite , Ferric iron
